WVHTC Foundation’s Wheeling
Office Donates 3,100 Food Items to Salvation Army
The Wheeling office employees of the West Virginia High Technology
Consortium (WVHTC) Foundation have helped brighten the holidays for
area residents by collecting more than 3,100 food items they donated
to the Salvation Army.
“We’re proud of the nearly 70 Foundation employees for
gathering this many non-perishable foods in just a matter of days.
The true spirit of giving is alive and well in each of them and we
thank them for their generosity,” said Joseph Allen, WVHTC Foundation
vice president and general manager.
Karen Whipkey, a Foundation director of operations, noted, “Our
staff was enthusiastic about collecting the food items and it was
very competitive in nature among our four floors of employees. But
we never lost site of the real goal, providing food for the less fortunate
during this holiday season."
The Foundation’s food drive was held as a partnership with the
Wheeling Nailers which is collecting canned goods at each of its home
games.
In September, the WVHTC Foundation raised $16,000 for the American
Red Cross’ Hurricane Katrina relief fund and $2,300 for Noah’s
Wish, an organization that rescues and cares for animals following
natural disasters. Last week, the Foundation raised $1,300 from a
bake sale with proceeds benefiting the animal shelters in Ohio, Marshall
and Belmont counties.
The WVHTC Foundation, headquartered in Fairmont, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization functioning as an engine of economic change for growing
a regional and statewide high tech business sector. The foundation
has established a multi-faceted approach to maximize economic development,
commercialization and workforce development. In addition to its Fairmont
headquarters and Wheeling branch, it has offices in Moundsville and
Glenville.
