WVHTC Foundation Programs ReceiveTwo
National Video Production Awards
The
West Virginia High Technology Consortium (WVHTC) Foundation’s Public
Safety and Homeland Security Group has been recognized with two national
video production awards. The Office of Law Enforcement Technology Commercialization
(OLETC) Mock Prison Riot™ and the National Corrections and Law
Enforcement Training and Technology Center (NCLETTC) 2004 Mock Disaster
technology videos each won a prestigious National Telly Award.
Shooters Productions, of Martins Ferry, Ohio, headed by the executive
staff of brothers Joe and Pat Monahan, recently received the two Telly
Awards. This team, contracted by the WVHTC Foundation programs to videotape
the training and technology events, has also won previous awards for
its work.
Since 1978, the Telly has been the premier award honoring outstanding
commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions.
The Telly Awards annually showcase the best work of the most respected
advertising agencies, production companies, television stations and corporate
video departments in the world, receiving entries from all 50 states
and many countries. Past Telly Award winners include E! Entertainment
Television, Miramax Films, Discovery Channel and National Geographic.
Many tactical scenarios, interviews and technology demonstrations were
captured by Shooters on videotape throughout the OLETC and NCLETTC events,
resulting in the most recent honors for the team.
A previous award-winning OLETC Mock Prison Riot™ video was used
throughout 2003 and early 2004 to recruit participants for the 2005
event, held in May. The event promotes hands-on interaction between
technologists
and tactical teams, allowing the opportunity to observe, evaluate and
handle commercially available and prototype equipment. OLETC was established
by the National Institute of Justice to develop and deploy an active,
broad-based, national program to assist in the commercialization of
innovative technologies. On April 1, OLETC moved under the WVHTC Foundation
umbrella
to maximize and leverage other government funded programs.
"
We are confident that Shooters Productions represents the Office of Law
Enforcement Technology Commercialization in the exceptional manner that
we need to relay to our clients and to the public safety community," said
Karen Whipkey, OLETC Director of Operations. "Shooters Productions
has proven itself over and over again in our working relationship throughout
the years, and we intend to keep them by our side for the future.”
The primary audience of the NCLETTC Mock Disaster includes public safety
agencies, which encompasses EMS, firefighters, police, 911 centers,
Offices of Emergency Services and hospitals, along with utility providers,
the
Department of Highways, emergency planning committees and local industry.
The event itself won the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s
Emergency Preparedness and Prevention Partnership Award in 2004 and
took first place at the Government Security Conference for disaster
preparedness
in 2003. The NCLETTC was established in 1998 at the former West Virginia
State Penitentiary in Moundsville as a year round training and technology
center for corrections, law enforcement and public safety organizations.
The NCLETTC also moved under WVHTC Foundation auspices on April 1.
“
As the use of technology in public safety increases, there is a demand
for wider dissemination of what products are available. The NCLETTC recognized
the need for a facility that provides training for all public safety
agencies and a setting for technology evaluation,” said Mike Logsdon,
Director of NCLETTC. “We respect and appreciate the manner in
which Shooters Productions focuses on our mission and the public safety
in
general, which is obvious by the final award-winning product.”
Steve Morrison, Vice President of the WVHTC Foundation’s Public
Safety and Homeland Security Group and past executive director of the
NCLETTC, added, “We’ve joined forces with OLETC under the
WVHTC Foundation family this year, and have great expectations that
Shooters will represent this new group in the same outstanding manner
as it did
OLETC and NCLETTC in the past.”
